Hard to comment thwiout knowing which Nikon model, but I agree that for comparable price points they deliver comparable performance.I generally recommend people pay a bit less for the camera and get a good quality lense. If they can afford just one lense, I recommend the Tamron 18-200 or if they can afford it the Tamron 18-300. I never recommend buying the kit. There is a bunch of junk it it that wastes money. Buy the body. Buy a great lense. Buy a case that matches your portability needs. Get Photoshop, or Elements if on a budget.
